The Galvanizing Days of May

I've been down to Kingfishers day in day out through this first two weeks of the month and enjoyed every single minutes of it. There have been absolute delights throughout.

Firstly, the big carp have continued to come out and day after day, I've seen them crashing out in the waves. Whenever the wind has died, too, and temperatures have risen it's been possible to track them through binoculars. We do have some wonderful fish and I was more than excited to take photographs of Dominic and Peter, both holding absolute crackers.

The big tench continue to show and I was out with Total Coarse Fishing's Steven Martin for a couple of days. Steve, bless him, picked up three PBs. My best tench personally on the session was nine pounds twelve! My failure to land a double is becoming a bit of a joke around the lake but I do thank the carp anglers for all their time, patience and advice.

There've been some sad losses of big fish. I've heard of a carp or two coming loose and on the tench front, at least two monsters have come adrift, both on bars which have presented serious problems at range on slightly lighter tackle.

There have been endless compensations. I've witnessed some quite beautiful dawns, especially after slightly cooler nights. The mists at Kingfisher are unparalleled. And it's great that so many of our summer birds are back. I love the terns that decorate our lake and on one particular evening a couple of us counted swifts, swallows and martins skimming the lake. This coming week I should spend in Spain, ash cloud permitting. But you know, I don't want to go! Why travel when you've got paradise in your back garden? And don't forget there are a few syndicate places left on this wonderful lake. Contact me at info@kingfisherapartments.co.uk
