Wensum Winter

Whilst this isn't strictly about wildlife, living here as I do, it's easy to forget how magnificent the Wensum valley is during the autumn and winter. During periods of high pressure, the lights are quite extraordinary. There is something about the clarity that makes for wonderful bird-watching and photography. Big, open skies with vast sheets of water and multi-coloured woods dotting the landscape thickly.

The Wensum valley really is a hidden gem. It never features on the tourist map and that means, most evenings as you walk, you have the Wensum, the lakes and the valley sides pretty much to yourself.

If you're feeling the stress, the Kingfisher Apartments are just the perfect break over the next three or four months or so. Check out weather forecasts for sure but if you see a fine spell on the horizon, get yourself down here with cameras, binoculars, boots and thermos flasks and see unspoilt England at its very best.
